Observations of the Everyday World

Upon first discovering the photography of Walker Evans, I was struck by his ability to use the camera to describe the details of the ordinary, everyday world. The essence of the human spirit exists even in the most mundane locations, in the seemingly insignificant details. These photographs are part of a series of my observations of spaces and their forms and textures that combine to tell us a part of the human story. We move through these kinds of spaces everyday. But do we notice them? How deep is our awareness of our daily environment?

I photograph with a medium format camera onto conventional color negative film with the intention of capturing the maximum amount of information that my equipment will allow. The images are then scanned at high resolution and color corrected before being output as archival ink jet prints.
