These images are from an ongoing project that I
have been shooting on the streets of Minneapolis since the beginning of
2003. They were shot digitally. Archival Giclee prints were made using
acid free, one hundred percent rag paper.
In many ways this personal project is a direct reaction
to the commercial work that I have been shooting for over a decade, work
that pays close attention to the details that make up the appearance and
personality of individual subjects.
In this project, those details have been reduced
to elements of color, form, motion and mood through selective focus and
blur. Individual identities are lost, but a human element still remains.
This element interacts with generalizations and assumptions that people
make about one another as they pass everyday on the street--a human element
that is more easily open for interpretation through the viewers own personal
experiences.
