Still Hallucinating was a transition exhibition in more than one way. It was a big show with many pieces. Halfway through its creation the manipulation of the photographic image was no longer of interest to me. I put away the dyes and my tiny brushes. Now it was the photographic image that completed the work. The painter in me had given way to the photographer. I worked on creating straight images that filled the frame. The abandoned object was still very important to me, but now I was pairing photographs and making comparisons like ancient Mayan buildings and abandoned farm houses in the mid-west. Now color was losing the importance I felt before, and the subject and its pictorial sharpness was becoming more important to me. I didnt know then it would be my last show in color. |
