| Sheriff Baker snapped
on latex gloves and gently removed the plastic garbage bag that enshrouded
the head of the deceased. Her face was blue and frozen in mid-scream,
reminded him of a famous picture he'd seen somewhere. The sheriff got
up to use the telephone. The proprietor, Margaret Boggs, had no kin, at
least none that he knew of. Her closest thing to family was her ex-husband,
Ned who worked down at the taconite mine. The phone rang twice. "Ned,
sorry to wake you," the sheriff said. "I've got some bad news.
Your ex-wife has been murdered." After a few minutes of working through
the disbelief, Ned cried, "God, why would anyone want to suffocate
Margaret?!" The sheriff paused. "I didn't say she was suffocated." |
