Jennings Mergenthal retired in the fall of 2000 after 37 years as the Luther Seminary bookstore manager. In 1963 Luther Theological Seminary president Alvin Rogness tapped recent grad Mergenthal to manage the seminary book store. He went on to create a collection that has garnered national and international esteem. Little Jennings, his grandson, was visiting the day I photographed them in Jennings’ home office in St. Paul, Minnesota.
