I met Rea when she arrived at the Icebox
with her sculpture that was a part of the Love in 2001 group exhibit. I
photographed her here in the gallery, in a chair that was here for the same
exhibit and gave me an impromptu set. Rea had a bone graft in her neck and
was required to wear a brace which she immediately decorated along with
her cane. Rea teaches art at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
She makes wonderfully mysterious constructions, sometimes with sounds and
moving things. To me they are like a crystallized dream. Rea shaved her
head in solidarity to her sister who fought and won a battle with cancer.
