This piece began by collecting this assortment of blades. The graphite colored frame was a finish I developed years before. Steel Wheels began my aesthetic appreciation of common building materials assembled into art. Steel alone has many built-in meanings like strength, modern construction, raw material of the industrial revolution. Blades bring to mind other related things like a tool to change natural wood into man made shapes, the cut, noise, speed and power. |
