I began this piece by making the deep stacked frame. It then became a tunnel into my memories of my visit to Mardi Gras earlier this decade. The unique intensity of the New Orleans Mardi Gras inspired this piece. The doll is a party person awash in alcohol(the fallen posture), decadence (the gold paint and beads), sexuality (the black velvet the mask & beads) and death (the scull & the drunken vulnerability). The frame becomes a golden prison or a back woods shack in the bayou. |
