Somerville,MA artist David Barnes' photography contrasts
the beauty of the human figure with the harsh, gritty 19th century New
England basements, steam tunnels and other ruins-like spaces that are
his preferred shooting locations. His carefully composed use of shadows
creates an obscurity from which the beauty of the figure is allowed to
blossom, all the more welcome because of the striking decay that surrounds
its vibrant warmth. David's work "Doors" was shot in one of
these 200 year-old New England basements, and is an excellent example
of his unique style.
