The works presented are explorations into new territory for me. I viewed this as an opportunity and challenge to exercise the female form in porcelain vessels. The torso was chosen as a starting point for its resemblance to a traditional clay vessel or pot. My goal was to reinforce the connection between the two and make the figurative more literal. Each piece started on the potter’s wheel as a general shape. After the thrown porcelain would slowly start to dry, life would be given to the form by pushing, smoothing, and carving. The glazes were made to grace the figures quietly and respond to the subtlety of the forms and textures. |
